Behind the build
The problem, approach, and impact of Mikronode.
- Type
- MikroTik HotSpot Management MVP
- For
- Network administrators, small ISPs and venue operators managing MikroTik HotSpot users and access packages.
01 Challenge
Managing hotspot accounts through router-specific desktop tools or commands can make routine user and package changes harder to hand off or streamline.
02 Approach
Built a server-rendered Express admin panel and a RouterOS integration layer for managing hotspot users and profiles.
03 Highlights
- Lists, adds, edits and removes HotSpot users and manages user profiles through MikroTik's binary API.
- Reuses a router connection with short-lived API channels instead of reconnecting for each operation.
- Normalizes RouterOS responses before passing data to the admin views.
04 Outcome
- Brings common MikroTik HotSpot operations into one browser-based administrative workflow.
- Reduces the need for direct router command execution when performing routine user and profile management.
