Behind the build
The problem, approach, and impact of Navigator.
- Type
- MikroTik HotSpot Management Platform
- For
- MikroTik HotSpot operators, including ISPs, internet service providers, venues and the Wi-Fi users they serve.
01 Challenge
New Wi-Fi users need a straightforward onboarding flow, while operators need hotspot accounts provisioned on the router without repetitive manual setup.
02 Approach
Built a captive-portal consumer flow and API prototype that captures RouterOS redirects and provisions hotspot accounts through the MikroTik API.
03 Highlights
- Offers phone-number onboarding for new devices and recognizes returning devices by MAC address.
- Creates the corresponding HotSpot user on the MikroTik router through its RouterOS API.
- Includes a separate RADIUS experiment alongside the RouterOS API provisioning flow.
04 Outcome
- Simplifies Wi-Fi onboarding by automating device recognition and hotspot account provisioning.
- Designed to reduce ISP operational overhead by minimizing repetitive manual account creation and hotspot management tasks.
